Les Dixon Men's Captain 2012
|
I feel very privileged to have the role of men’s captain at Hexham Golf Club. When I moved to live in Hexham I did not appreciate what was available in the way of a great golf club. Tucked away and hidden from view to the south side of the A69 is a gem of a golf course. This parkland course may not be the longest but it still introduces many challenges with some tree lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers on the fairways and greenside. With its super drainage this is a course that can be enjoyed for 12 months of the year, given the snow stays away. Both the fairways and greens are always in superb condition through the summer season. Being retired and a member of the Reivers senior section means I can play the course four times a week and I always continue to enjoy every game. Even when the game isn’t going too well, one can still appreciate the views down the Tyne Valley along with the amazing colours of the many trees throughout the different seasons.

The refurbished Club House lounge is a must after a game of golf, where we are all looked after by SG Hospitality. The pros shop is always well stocked and Andy and Chris provide excellent coaching skills with a superb indoor simulation suite available. Alternatively there are two outdoor practice areas available. Junior golf is well catered for and many of the young low handicap players have progressed through this important process which is well supported by the coaching from the Professional team. The men’s team compete in the Hadrian League, where all matches are played off scratch. Want to see some good golf then come along and watch one of the team’s home games on a Wednesday evening. I’m sure the team will be up to the challenge of retaining the Hadrian League trophy which they won in 2011. Visitors are always welcome so come along and enjoy a game of golf followed by some excellent catering in the bar. Thinking of playing in the Hexham Opens, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Best wishes to everyone playing golf at Hexham, I look forward to seeing you on the course and whilst we can’t all be winners we must ensure we enjoy the participation through 2012.
